For security reasons, tags cannot be transferred between users once registered. This prevents unauthorized access to recovery cases and protects your privacy. If you sell your vehicle, we recommend purchasing a new tag for the new owner.

Our tags are waterproof and designed for durability, but if yours is damaged or lost, contact support for a replacement tag at a reduced cost. Your account information and recovery history remain intact—only the physical tag needs replacing.

We recommend one tag per key for optimal tracking. However, if you have a set of keys that always stay together (like house keys on one ring), a single tag can protect the entire set.

The finder scans your QR code with any smartphone camera, which takes them to a secure reporting page. They upload a photo of your key and tag for verification, provide their contact information, and submit the report. You receive an instant notification in your dashboard to review and approve the return.

Every finder must upload a photo showing your key and the attached tag. You review this photo in your dashboard before approving the return. This verification step ensures the finder has the correct key and prevents fraudulent claims.

If the photo doesn't match your key, simply decline the return in your dashboard. No recovery fee is charged, and the case is closed. This might happen if someone reports the wrong tag code or uploads an incorrect photo.

When you approve a return, part of the $129 recovery fee goes to the finder as an incentive for their honesty and effort. This reward motivates finders to return keys through our secure system rather than ignoring them or attempting direct contact.

For privacy and security reasons, direct contact between owners and finders is not permitted. All communication is handled through our verified custody chain system, protecting both parties and ensuring a secure, trackable return process.

Currently, LostKeyGuard operates within the United States and Canada. If your key is found internationally, we'll work with you on a case-by-case basis to coordinate return, though additional shipping costs may apply.
